is it like a big percentage or not so much? [i'm got an insane phone bill coming up & i want to just put it on the cc and then put $$ aside each week... if i pay it all at once i'll be so bloody broke.]

its not that big a percentage, i think $1600 was like $100 or something minimum payment? i have a virgin cc so diff % interest and such would obviously change the number

Credit cars are basically a scam unless you pay them off. Almost all credit cars have an interest rate of 17-20%. That is at least 10% higher that a line of credit.

If you're looking to purchase a big ticket item that you can't pay off in one go, do everything you can to get a small line of credit instead of a credit card.

Example: Say you buy a 1000 dollar item.

On your credit card you'll pay 18%/12 = 1.5% a month in interest.
So month one your interest is 15 dollars.

On a line of credit you might pay 8%/12 = 0.6667%.
So the first month your interest will be $6.67.

But like you said. If you pay your bill off every month, then there is no interest, your credit rating will improve (bringing you ever closer to the pink card!), and you won't be paying a penny to the credit card bastards.

i just got my first credit card recently & i never could understand how they worked until i got one.

usually every month you'd have to pay something, usually the minimum is like $20. i always try to do a little more than the minimum otherwise i'd be paying it off forever.

for your first credit card though, don't get a very high limit. & don't use it when you know you won't be able to pay it off.
