That is basically what insurance does. While the most legally relevant parts are the stuff about how the doctor isn't the insurance expert, and isn't obligated to be, I'm getting the feeling that you think "It's covered" and "You don't have to pay anything at all" are the same thing. They are not.

Well, I understand that they are not the same thing.
The thing is, he said BOTH of those things. He told me it would be covered, that I would not have to pay anything.
I realize they aren't the same.. He said both.

And as for insurance only paying a portion... They have not done this with any other doctor visits I've had. They paid it all or nothing.
It is student insurance through the school so maybe it's a bit different.

Cala, $25 a visit? That's amazing. I didn't even ask how much it would be because he said "You won't have to pay anything." But, turns out, it was over $100 a visit.

i just read the summary of my health plan and it says that if i choose to go to a chiropractor, i will owe a co-pay each time.

so it's possible that even though with your plan they don't charge co-pays to see certain doctors (gynecology, general practitioner, etc), they might charge to see this kind of doctor. and if his office wasn't charging you the co-pay each time, maybe the insurance company is now billing you for those. i think someone brought that up already though. either that or it's the deductible that again with your type of insurance may only be coming into effect when you see certain types of doctors versus the general preventative care kind.

the only way for you to know for sure why and what you're being charged for is to directly contact your insurance company and ask them what's going on. the billing lady at school may not know and maybe that's why she acted like she did.
