is it bad not to have credit card?

i have never had credit cards. well i did. i had a corporate amex card thingie in my last job (which essentially is the same as this job but that's another story) but i would assume that that doesnt count towards my credit history because its a corporate credit card.

i heard from somewhere that it's harder to get a home loan or something if you have zero credit history?

yeah ive never had one or any kind of bill service or anything other than a student loan and apparently that does make it hard to get some cards cause you basically dont exist to them in terms of credit history

a french friend of mine who moved her had trouble getting a sterling credit card despite having a great credit history at home and she was told a good way of developing some credit was to get a contract phone as opposed to pay as you go. i think after 6 months she reapplied and it went through fine, so that's a quick way to get on the credit history radar as it were. given the current economic crisis i think alot of people are going to struggle to get loans/mortgages approved

that is a myth.
you can still get plenty of loans if you have decent credit history

it's just the people who SHOULDN'T get loans that can't right now.

and it's not bad to not have a credit card if you know you couldn'tpay it off
i mean your credit score is reliant on the LENGTH of your credit history too so if you want an auto/home loan within the next couple of years you probably should start a credit history

and a contract phone is absolutely the best place to start.
assuming, of course, you can afford to consistently pay for it
one missed payment can stay on your record for years

i said it CAN make it hard to get SOME cards, obviously you can get loans or card with ridiculous rates, youve no mission of walking in to your bank and getting one, so it's hardly a myth

i can't even figure out what this means.
this is what i was saying:
the current economic situation has no bearing on loan availability for people with healthy credit.
and i don't know what me having a "mission" of getting a loan has to do with anything.
it is a myth that the current economic situation is making it impossible to get loans. you just have to have good credit. if you get turned down for a loan right now, it's because you truly shouldn't have one.
a year ago, you probably could have gotten one. but that doesn't mean you should have. the banks are finally being responsible and not doing NINJ loans anymore. you need a credit history and proof of income.

i'm sorry i don't understand your post. maybe you can explain it to me?
