Making the big move

I decided to bite the bullet and apply for lots of teaching jobs in small far-off (by NZ standards) towns. I'm 27 and finally making my first really big "life decision". I'm quite excited!
Anyone made a move from city to small town (as an adult) and how did it work for you? I grew up in small towns, and still consider myself to be "from the country" but I've actually been in the city for 9 years now, I'm hoping I can make the readjustment... I'm a bit su****ious about having to go out of town if I want to have a good time and avoid kids I teach (and their parents), but that's hardly a major concern.

Good for you! I'm moving soon too--from the 'burbs to the proper city.

It's funny, you'll be a big fish in a small pond and I'll be a small fish in a big pond. Depending on your perspective.

So obviously I don't have any advice but yay for biting the bullet. Hope you get a good job and all that.

As do I! I spotted a job today in an even smaller school (92 across all 13 years!) in an even smaller town. I don't want it as bad, but I'll probably apply. If I can just work out how to make a schwanky looking watermark on my CV. Which burb have you been in?

I did it to do my maters degree, but for a relatively short and finite period of time. I think that sometimes it takes a bit of time, but that you can be happy where ever you go once you make a couple of friends and start feeling attached to the place.

And, on the upside, you always have us!

If I get the latter job, I rather imagine I will be spending a lot of time in the weekend posting at this place. And going for long walks.
