What does one write in a cover letter? I wrote a couple but I'm now stuck with a third one. I heard about this position by word of mouth and it hasn't been advertised on the market. I will be working as a mentor for children with all kind of behavioral problems.

My past experiences:
1. working in the lab as research assistant (data entry, recruiting participants for experiments, running the experiment etc.)
2. working as an international peer educator (putting together social activities for international students, designed a mentor program that matches international students with American students)
3. Internship: worked with autistic children and helped them acquire social skills

Now how do I tie all this in? I actually posted that I'm looking for a job on a job forum and this girl e-mailed me that her boss is interested in recruiting a new mentor. Apparently 4 ppl already sent their resume and she didn't like any. I sent this girl my resume (don't know if this was good to do) and she said to add the cover letter and i will not have a problem getting the job. then she asked if i had any experience as babysitter which I don't.

long story short, what do u write in a cover letter?
