| I've been fired twice from shitty jobs. The first one was stacking shelves in a supermarket, with a trial period that never seemed to end (did they want to keep me on my toes or something??). They made me do the freezer section without gloves as they didn't have any, and cut open boxes with a key as they wouldn't give us any knives. They complained that I wasn't fast enough and didn't smile and look as if I was enjoying it. Then they asked me to work the rest of the shift after they fired me. I should have said no but I was halfway across town wearing only my work uniform, so I had no clothes to go home in.
The second one was order picking in a warehouse. On the second day I'd drank too much of an energy drink and had to go and throw up, but I think the boss thought I was faking it so I could go home. He asked me what I found hard about the job, the job was fine I was just fucking ill, had a really bad cold. Then I rang the recruitment agency who got me the job to say I couldn't work saturday as I had a hospital appointment, they said don't work tomorrow there's not enough work for you to do, then the next day they rang and said they won't be continuing your contract, lots of other new people are also laid off due to speed etc. Thoroughly vague.
Both those jobs were a headache and I'm thankful they fired me. It made me bitter and twisted but looking back I'm glad as it gives me the chance to find something I actually enjoy. |
