Teen pregnancy, where do teachers stand?

There was a rumour in my school about my friend being pregnant, it was not true but my year tutor heard about this, and rang her mother. She told her mother than my friend had lost her virginity, had a pregnancy scare and had a lot of problems,

I don't think it was right for her to tell her mum, she is going to get in so much trouble when she gets home. And what annoys me the most is that there is really no cause for concern, as it was just a rumour!

When should teachers step back and leave pupils personal lives alone?

I think they are legally obliged to contact parents if there is something htat might affect a pupils well being or safety; so i guess pregnancy would come into that.

It's supprising they didn't take your friend aside first? Thats the way round i would have assumed they'd broach subjects like that anyway.

Almost always. That was none of her business. She should have had a private talk with the pupil if she had any concerns but going straight to the mother on what was only a rumour was out of line.
The school rang my parents house on a worry that was of the same scale but was none of their business. I didnt bother to finish my 'repeat' final year to get higher points for college because I couldnt stand all the teachers asking, Is it true?' and alot of kids harrassing me over it.

I don't think the teacher had a right to tell. If she was concerned about your friend she should have confronted her and referred her to some kind of sexual health center.

The other day my friend told me that she had forgotten to take her pill, so she took it in the middle of class and her teacher saw her. The teacher then gave her a nasty look and said, "Oh, well that's nice." Which was pretty freaking rude if you ask me, at least she's trying to be safe.

And its those kind of people that give shit about teens not being safe and becoming teen parents and when kids do give a shit, its all nasty looks. How the fuck would the teacher know it was birth controls specifically anyway? I know how teachers can be, I would have waited until after class and taken it in the girls toilet instead.
