I have an overdraft - but it doesn't show on my credit. Its from a credit union though so I don't know how that affects it, the rep I dealt with said it'd show, she went on sick leave so I spoke to another rep and he said it wouldn't.

try to get a card through capital one.
They tend to focus on people just starting out & will give just about every person a card, it'll just start with an incredibly low limit. I think mine was $200 when I first got it, but then I've had the card with them for almost 3 years now & they've raised my limit twice, and got me enough credit that I was able to get a better card.

my dad helped get my credit established by putting a car loan in my name when i was 16/17. he paid for it but it was in my name so it counted toward me. then he cosigned on a low limit card when i went to college.

it was a little rough at first. i couldn't even get a fashion bug charge card but i just started buying small things i could pay off right away, like a netflix account. then i was trying to win an ipod through one of those scam things and i signed up for 3 credit cards thinking i wouldn't get approved and i was sent 3 cards!

Sometimes it works if you start with Department store cards - I did that. If you could have used an atm card back then they way you can now, I don't know if I would have bothered. Although I won't be able to buy property without a mortgage, so maybe it's good that I do have a credit history.
