I see her as that actually. As well as Avril Lavigne's. The mainstream might want to call them rock stars but that's because they don't know what rock stars are these days. They are too threatened by the real things. It definitely watered down everything that was pure and good about alternative music in the 90s. And that's why I went from Nirvana to Britpop. Couldn't stand the music being made in america in the late 90s.

playing devils advocate again-
Everything is measured in sales nowadays and it would appear if we went by sales that Alanis is more popular than Courtney and Hole put together...As for greatest album lists Jagged Little Pill rates highly in many a poll. I love both Alanis and Courtney but at least Alanis never had to 'act' like a rock star to sell.
