Smoke Alarms? I realize they don't always live up to the hype as advertised tho we have about a dozen; the kind that go off in the fire station as well as here
Also close neighbours who look in on each other's animals when anyone has to be gone for more than a few hours. I realize that's not practical tho for everyone.

Never had cats, but w/our dogs if I had to be gone more than a day, even w/an offer of pet-sitter, I always took her to a veternarian's boarding facility. It's some $$$ but am paranoid even w/our big back high-fenced yard.

Poor kitty, damn. Have they made a determination of how the fire actually began? I know they can be cagey & no-comment about that for ages. And suddenly change their minds after the fact
