| | | Joan Rivers said "fucking shit" on Loose Women. Apparently. Can't find it on YouTube. The one time that piece of shit show is mildly interesting and I'm not being forced to watch it by sub.tv |

I like Joan Rivers. She's a withered old cunt and I would touch her if she wanted me to. |

She was describing Russell Crowe when she said that. "Russell Crowe is a (and you'd better get ready to beep this) a piece of fucking shit!"
Then the loose women said that they don't actually have a beeper, so yeah. "Fucking shit" at 5 past 1 in the afternoon.
Also, they should have realised what they were getting themselves into, having Joan Rivers as a guest! I mean, it's pretty fucking obvious she was gonna swear at some point!! |

| | If that is a big deal, then what the hell was up in this thread where England gathered in a circle to shake their heads over the fact that there was a mild reaction to a US newscaster saying ‘fuck’ when she didn’t know she was on the air? It was too early in the day? I thought y’all were way too sophisticated to notice.

| | | Well yeah, there's a "watershed" over that sort of thing.
I'll be perfectly honest: Most people don't give a shit, and most of the people who do give a shit would claim they weren't personally offended but that "people might find that offensive". Probably, anyway. But I don't know, while we'll all get over it if someone says a naughty word, I like that some words are still naughty or inappropriate at times. The world would be no fun if someone couldn't ruinate their career by, say, naming their Ready Steady Cook meal "A Big Fucking Pile Of Cunting Dead Jews" or whatever
But no, it probably isn't "a big deal" really. Just mildly interesting and kind of annoying that I sat through god knows how many episodes of Loose Women in the uni bar in which nothing even remotely interesting happened, but missed this one in favour of something as deeply mediocre as an episode of The Lone Gunmen. |

Probably, anyway. | Well, that’s pretty much what it’s like here. Although apparently Sue Simmons was of some interest because she periodically has to be treated for alcoholism but never actually permanently stops drinking which I didn’t know until I had dinner with my father the other week and it came up (in the interest of describing a ‘real reaction,’ we as a group rolled our eyes, I said hadn’t she been around since I was a little kid, and Dad said yes, and every now and then she has to go away to get dried out, so pretty much anything could happen with her live on the air. At some point before or after my stepmother reported her amusement at the panhandler she’d seen that day with the sign that said ‘Just Give Me Some Fucking Change Already.’). Quote: |

| Now, The Lone Gunmen show is seriously offensive to me, because they insisted on not actually making it a show about the trio I enjoyed so much on the X-Files, despite the fact that no one who hadn’t liked them on the parent show would even consider watching the spin-off.

| | | Yeah, but Jimmy Bond was pure all_American dumbass rapecandy.
Mate of mine recently showed me some off-air footage of Bill O'Reilly screaming and cursing like a docker about the fact that the phrase "to play us out" was on his autocue (apparently he's never encountered it in all of the 230 years he's been alive). But he didn't do it live so it was okay? It was annoying, I'm just itching for that cunt to slip up rather than (apparently) staying just the right side of the line.
But yeah, realistically, I don't know why anyone would book Joan Rivers for a midday show. I mean, even if she was able to go a whole hour without swearing, you're still dependent on her being willing, and asking her to play nice would be like a cunt rag to a shrivelled old bull on HRT. |

O'Reilly Hit With Sex Harass Suit - October 13, 2004
Read this, but don't eat, unless you really want to think about Bill's "Caribbean shower fantasies" while you are eating |

| I'm not sure why you'd be surprised that she was asked to leave during the break, or why you'd think it was "uptight". Like we said, it was right in the middle of the day. I doubt even Joan was that surprised. Do Americans not have a watershed or something?
Found it, for some reason it won't embed. YouTube - Joan Rivers swears on Loose Women |

I can’t think of a recent incident, although I could not have noticed or not remembered. But really, the surprise is because it sounds like something that you’d make fun of us for.
Joan Rivers used to host her own talk show in the morning, btw. She was also the fill-in host for Jonny Carson for years (yes, late night, but you can’t say fuck here on a network at any hour, and this was a while ago). I’m not terribly surprised she did this, but I don’t think it was inevitable either. She’s not someone who would immediately spring to my mind as a risky live show guest, mostly because she logged in so much time as a host.

| | | Oh, I doubt she'd have done it if it was her ass on the line. I wouldn't say "risky" in the way that, say, Oliver Reed was risky, but she's got a mischievous streak. She did Graham Norton's show a few times here, maybe she was under the impression that all British TV is like that or something.
I dunno, I doubt anyone would make fun of Americans for just reacting. We'd probably make fun if the reaction involved a bunch of religious fucknuts declaring her to be the anti-Christ, which I'm almost certain would happen. But I dunno, seems like this is a smidgeon iffier than Janet Jackson's tit at the Superbowl. |
