| | | Wow, the drink is nothing, everybody has that as a teenager, parents even allow a cocktail every now and then.
And the smoking, first of all she may not even be a smoker she might just have a cigarette every now and then, I'm 16 and all my friends are either smokers or smoke occasionally. They do it for looks, tbh.
I understand though why you posted the picture, the fact that Frances wrote that on the polaroid is pretty funny. |

| | lol. that party thing is retarded and embarassing but really....she's just a teenager. so many of us went through that teen angst phase so whatever.
let her have her fun and then in a couple years she'll experience the shame like all of us did.
it's only really pathetic when you never get out of the phase like her damn mother. |

I thought I was the shit, clearly I know better now and am totally ashamed. But yeah.. its a possibility.
But its Courtney...I can only imagine how much booze and drugs she has in that household.

| | | I think making a link between her father's suicide and a "suicide theme party" is laughable. It's just normal teenage dress-up goff fun — I doubt she is actually going to kill herself.

rolleyes | i don't think anyone gives a shit about the idea of HER killing herself. that's totally beside the point.
the thing about the "suicide themed birthday party" is that it's just kind of creepy and weird considering the way her father died. and everyone knows about it ffs, how could they NOT make a link between them. |

rolleyes | I agree. The party sounds about as dangerous as an episode of Beetlejuice, what with the skeleton doormen ( ) and all. And considering her idea of morbid is likely not getting enough gifts, I'm not sensing deep, deep torment or anything.
At the same time, I can see where people are coming from. It's in poor taste. If I died of AIDS, and my kid threw a serconversion sixteen party
and everybody dressed to express their symptom of choice, it might trouble some people. Hey, that party could have skeletal doormen too!
I doubt the fact her father killed himself slipped her mind as she thought this up, and that's kind of gross. But then Courtney isn't above exploiting his death for a punchline either, so it's not that big a surprise. Gotta be edgy after all. |

| | | The smoking just really isn't a big deal, even if she claimed to be against it in the past, I used to be against it but occasionally I'll have a cigarette nowadays. I do understand the viewpoint others have, a lot of times children with smoker parents think it's gross, but on the other hand, it just might influence them to pick up smoking as well.
Like others said she'll outgrow it. Personality comes into play as well, she seems pretty outgoing and energetic, chances are she WILL be one those wannabee rebellious teens.
And the suicide party, yeah it's in bad taste. AND I think it's funny how she says "I wanna be on MTV solely because I'm so different from the super sweet 16 parties" right after she lists the extravagance of her suicide 16 party. It's in bad taste anyway, let alone the fact that her own father killed himself. Whatever though, this affects none of us on here. |

| | | to argue one side of this tema, consider that Franny was a mere tod when her dad killed himself- she really has no concrete connection to the experience other than growing up with the Cobain abstract legend following/ shadowing over her. makes one wonder if this is in fact a rebellion of sorts? |

| | | Poor Frances. She really really got screwed in the parenting department. If she wants to have a death themed sweet sixteen, more power to her. If the worst she's doing is smoking, I say good for her. What a fucking life. All the money in the world couldn't make up for having Courtney Love as a mother. And all the money might be gone by the time Frances is old enough to take control. I feel nothing but sympathy for her. Yeesh. |

I know I was. I still am - I want my wedding dress to be all tattered and to look like I've just crawled out of a grave. But that's because I enjoy that kind of dramatic gothiness. I can't believe I just admitted that.
I think if this post about her party is for real, it's probably not really a suicide theme - more just Tim Burton funereal. I know she's used the word "suicidal" but that's probably only because it's a bit sinister and alliterative with Sweet Sixteen. Just because her dad very famously died in that manner doesn't mean she can't enjoy a cool motif.
If she was having a Shotgun Wound to Head themed party, I would consider that to be pretty tasteless.
Besides, we can't expect her to wilt for the rest of her life when she hears reference to suicide. I bet her party will be great fun.

| | | about the pictures:
I don't think that's any big deal. Lots of people smoke cigarettes, there is no proof that there is alcohol in any of those photos and no proof that she actually wrote that herself on that polaroid. Besides, drinking booze wouldn't make her a bad person anyways.
About her party:
I would TOTALLY love to have a funeral themed party for myself. I don't wish I was dead but I always do not want to be so freaked out by the thought of dying, it's the only thing in life that we are meant to do and when I die I do hope that my funeral is not really depressing but more of a celebration of my friends and the good times that we shared together. After saying this, I would NOT want the word 'suicide' to be in any way associated with a party that I was attending, so I find it weird that she could be making it seem like no big deal when she lost her father to this. But then again, people have different ways of dealing with tragic things in their life. Anyways, I watched Sweeney Todd today (love that film) and I was thinking "God, I really love the costuming in this film. I want a Mrs. Lovett- style dress," so I'm super-jealous that Frances is getting the film's costume designer to make a dress for her. I think she should get My Chemical Romance and H.I.M to play her birthday party, it would make sense. I also hope that SOMEONE talks her out of calling it "My suicidal 16" |
