You can't possibly tell me that system gives a rat's ass about your safety and well-being outside of your ability to pay taxes. Even then they seem not to care here as they've left the door wide open for mass unemployment here.
You know all those people in the poorer, undeveloped nations currently getting pissed off over the rising costs of food, do you think the governments in charge there want them to have guns?
It's also not harder. Drugs have been illegal forever, do you think anybody who wants them has a problem locating them?
Fuck, they even get them into prisons regularly and that's the end of the line for punishment.
Fact of the matter is that there is machining tools and knowledge available for anyone with the will to start up a blackmarket shop if they did get banned. Just easier now to land them from places where they aren't.

Likewise, I can't be bothered to read yet another tedious tract about how I'm definitely going to be killed just because I have to wait a few days to own a gun and, shock horror x2, have a criminal record check done on me. Criminal record checks are not a bad thing. They check to find out if you have a criminal record before they let you do things like buy guns, work with kids, etc.

Criminal checks are not a bad thing, certainly. Problem is they are already being and have been done for quite some time, but it just doesn't sit well enough with some.
