(April 4) - Earlier this week, Beyonce Knowles and longtime beau Jay-Z took out a marriage license in Scarsdale Village, N.Y. The license is good for 60 days, but it didn't take that long to be put to use.

On a rainy Friday in New York, Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z tied the knot in a small ceremony. PEOPLE reports that the couple, who have been together since 2002, took their vows after a lavish party at Jay-Z's Tribeca loft.

"It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair -- close friends and family," a source tells the magazine.

Speculation started when large flower arrangements and a tent were delivered to Jay-Z's Tribeca apartment building Friday afternoon.

High-profile guests had also been arriving in New York. Destiny's Child singers Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland were in a hotel and even shot a YouTube video to flaunt it.

PerezHilton actually provided the downtown address where the wedding was to take place.

Jay-Z certainly had other reasons to celebrate with his impending $150 million deal with concert promoter Live Nation. There was speculation that the party at his loft was nothing more than a celebration of the blockbuster deal.
