The fundamental issue here is that a child is going to receive unconditional love - it's going to be the self appointed "moral beacons" of society who are gonna sully it, cast aspersions and fuck up what would otherwise be an idyllic upbringing.
Let's hope Thomas and his family prove the bigots wrong.

| | | That's so surreal. I thought is was going to be a link to some National Enquirer shit since stories like that have been appearing in the National Enquirer and The Sun and those papers for years.
It's so weird that it's actually happening. |

Let's hope Thomas and his family prove the bigots wrong. | Bigots? LOL. Not only bigots have the opinion that this is a retarded situation. Bigots and transgenders alike have expressed that this situation is stupid. If you are a male, be a male. If you are a woman, be a woman. This idiot abused a loophole in the legal system to get recognized as a man and then married to their partner, all the while knowing that he/she/it was going to get pregnant and experience a WHOLLY FEMALE event. Sorry, but chopping your tits off does not a man make. |

Why the need for such sharply defined gender roles? fuck all of that. Quote:

| | | I think the problem some of the transgender people might have with this is that it throws into question their own position for the general population. For example, they might be asking themselves: how can a person who feels like a man to the extent that he should go through hormone treatments and mastectomies suddenly do something that's inherently female? If he can do that, are people going to think that the average transgender person can go back and forth as they please?
To draw a parallel, it could be similar to how some homosexual people react to bisexuals. The fight has been going on for some time for people to recognise that a homosexual is a homosexual - it's not sociological, it's that way from day one (and you can't just chuck homosexuals into camps/church and expect them to come out straight). But bisexuals throw that into doubt in a way, and I imagine some homosexuals don't respond kindly to that? This is a lot like what I'm getting at in the previous paragraph.
(Disclaimer! - I don't intend to offend at all here, and I'm trying my best not to generalise, so if there's anything I'm saying here that is a generalisation then please disregard it, b/c I don't believe for a second all people feel the same way on these things.)
I have nothing but support for this couple, but my first reaction was a lot like herekitty's. But reading the reasons for it, I understand it a lot better. Also, I do feel a little sorry for the kid, purely b/c children can be cruel about these things, but I've no doubt that the kid will be born into a loving family and hopefully that will overcome all.

I guess my problem is that I fluctuate between realizing that the general population is slow to accept things so progress must be gradual vs. believing that people who can't deal with other people's sexuality/gender choices can get fucked.
