| | | Nicole Richie released from jail after 70 minutes (merged) One day in jail for Lindsay Lohan
August 24, 2007 08:04am
US actor Lindsay Lohan will spend one day in jail after reaching a plea deal in her drink-driving case.
Lohan will also serve 10 days of community service and complete a drug treatment program under the deal reached overnight at the Beverly Hills Superior Court.
"She's getting what everyone else would get," Los Angeles deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers said after an hour-long hearing.
Lohan was charged with seven misdemeanour counts following her twin drink-driving arrests.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said Lohan faced two counts each of driving under the influence, driving with excessive alcohol and being under the influence of cocaine.
The 21-year-old star of Herbie Fully Loaded and Georgia Rule also faced one count of reckless driving.
But Lohan, who has been enrolled in an intensive program at a Utah rehabilitation centre since her second arrest in July, was spared felony drug possession charges which could have led to a substantial prison sentence.
The district attorney's office said that while Lohan had been found in possession of cocaine at both of her arrests in May and July, the amounts involved were below the 0.05 grams required for felony charges.
Lohan was first arrested on May 26 after smashing her Mercedes into a curb in Beverly Hills before being accused of driving under the influence.
Within days, Lohan had enrolled in a detox program at the Promises rehabilitation centre in Malibu.
It was her second stint in rehab of 2007; she was admitted for treatment in January after reportedly being discovered passed out in a hotel corridor following the Golden Globes awards.
However, within days of leaving rehab, Lohan was arrested for drink-driving again when she was stopped in Santa Monica on July 24.
Lohan was alleged to have chased the mother of her personal assistant, who called police to report the incident. |

| | | Lindsay Lohan gets one day in jail Lindsay Lohan has struck a deal by pleading no contest to two counts of DUI and will serve 10 days community service and one day in jail (the minimum sentence of four days was cut in half by the judge, and she was also credited one day for the time served when she was arrested). Lindsay also pleaded guilty to two counts of being under the influence of a controlled substance and pled no contest to reckless driving. The judge ordered Lindsay to serve 36 months probation and attend an alcohol education program for 18 months, as well as enroll in a drug program and "not to associate with people with controlled substances." Lindsay issued the following statement: "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs.Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case. No matter what I said when I was under the influence on the day I was arrested, I am not blaming anyone else for my conduct other than myself. I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have.I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so. I am taking these steps to improve my life. Luckily, I am not alone in my daily struggle and I know that people like me have succeeded. Maybe with time it will become easier. I hope so." She sounds pretty serious about getting healthy, but one day in jail? For seven misdemeanors, including driving with a blood alcohol level almost double the legal limit and trying to run somebody down in her car? I waved at a police officer the wrong way once and got a worse sentence. More... |

| | | Nicole Richie released from jail after 70 minutes Nicole Richie checks out of jailBy staff writers
A PREGNANT Nicole Richie checked into a Los Angeles jail today to serve a 96-hour sentence for drink-driving, and was released after 70 minutes.
Entertainment Tonight reported that Richie was booked at the county jail for women in Lynwood shortly after 3pm (8am AEST) and was released after serving an hour and ten minutes
"If she is processed into the Los Angeles County jail system, Ms Richie will be handled like any other inmate with a similar sentence of 96 hours," the L.A. County Sheriff's Department said in a press release.
"At this time, the criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30-days or less for a non-violent offense is as follows: the arrestee is booked, screened and usually released within 12 hours," the press release said.
"This procedure is based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by Federal Court guidelines. Based on the mandated guidelines and Ms Richie's 96 hours sentence, she will be treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence."
The reality TV star was arrested in December after police officers found her car parked on a freeway and facing the wrong way.
The Lynwood facility is the same one that housed Richie's Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton for nearly three weeks after she was convicted of driving on a suspended licence while on probation for an alcohol-related reckless driving case.
Richie is expecting a child with Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden who she has been dating for over six months. |

| | | Call me crazy, but if you're convicted to 4 days, you should do 4 days.
Not just Nicole, but everyone.
I say build more prisons, that will give more jobs and more cells.
Two birds and all that. |

| | | Seriously, she's gonna end up killing someone before she realizes she's got a problem.
I can't imagine her doing only 1 day for 7 counts like that.
She'll be out in an hour, just like Nicole.
Horrible. |

| | | I like how they always start the press release with "she's getting what anyone else would." I'm really sure if I went out and committed SEVEN misdemeanors, two being drunk driving (wait, that's not a misdemeanor), steeling a car, being in possession of coke, bringing coke into a police station...what else did she do? Anyway, something tells me that if I, or any normal person were to have that kind of wrap sheet, that they would be losing just a little more than ONE day of freedom.
And what this "intensive" rehab shit, water rafting, hiking, visits to the mall and sweet shops? Think I might develop a coke habit so I can go on vacation..erm I mean rehab. |
