BRITISH pop singer Lily Allen has been arrested over an attack on a photographer outside a London nightclub.

The singer, who went to a police station in central London yesterday, was released on police bail after being questioned after allegedly assaulting a photographer near the Wardour club in London's Soho district on March 13, the British Press Association reported.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "At 9.30am yesterday, a 21-year-old woman attended a central London police station by appointment.

"She was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. She has been bailed to return on a date in late July."

Allen built up a huge following via her MySpace page before releasing her debut single, Smile, which topped the UK charts in July and was also a big hit in Australia.

The star recently postponed her US tour, saying she wanted to get back into the recording studio.

Allen is due to tour Australia at the end of July, including a gig at Splendour in the Grass.
