AND I don't think we can criticise any culture at all when our models are emaciated coat hangers...of course there are exceptions but really, alot of models I see in our Vogue I want to take home and feed. The first model posted is gorgeous. The second is scary and skinny...like alot of models.

Tyra Banks is a weird example. I think she has the bod and just kinda shows up for work every day, eventually ending up on top. Modeling is bullshit. Not to mention her wannabe Oprah personality is vile. But I mean, she came up showing off her tits and ass in catalogues, not a lot else, right?

The reason the Miss Universe Japan winner is relevant is that this healthy-looking chick runs contrast to the addiction with the godawful pixie cuteness in mainstream Japan. My point wasn't that the models are "ugly" (I really don't care) but that they were obviously chosen solely to look like starving teenagers working an auto show. Their actual attractiveness is in the toilet because of this aesthetic. I shouldn't have said she looks worse than an Olsen -- she looks like an Olsen.

I don't have a problem with incredibly skinny models. This is a different deal.

it's clearly a reaction against the trend of japanese women having surgery to look more "western".
the idea that the only people that should be considered attractive within different races are those that most closely resemble the homogenous, identikit, hollywood stereotype is pretty sick.

Normally Tyra Banks is quite pretty, that's just a really weird photo.
