Nirvana Rocker and Other Deceased Stars Appear in Heaven
AOL
Just last month,
Courtney Love said she was putting some of her late husband Kurt Cobain's personal belongings on the auction block. But she doesn't want to give the image of Cobain away, which might explain why she's angered over new ads featuring him alongside other deceased rockers.
Who's in Dr. Martens' Rock and Roll Heaven?
See the ads causing the stir.
Love has objected to ads for Dr. Martens shoes featuring Nirvana frontman Cobain, Ramones' Joey Ramone, the Clash's Joe Strummer and the Sex Pistols' Sid Vicious wearing Martens black boots while sitting on clouds in what would appear to be rock and roll heaven.
According to PEOPLE, Love isn't a fan of the campaign. "
Courtney had no idea this was taking place and would never have approved such a use," her rep tells said. "She thinks it's outrageous that a company is allowed to commercially gain from such a despicable use of her husband's picture."
Who gave permission for the photos to be used? "It does appear that in the UK what Dr. Martens has done is allowed," says Love's rep. "
Courtney did not, and would not, approve of such a use of Kurt's name and likeness." The ads have popped up on music blogs all week long.
Love made headlines last month when she told Spinner (an AOL Music Web site) that she planned to move on 13 years after Cobain's suicide by getting rid of some of his memorabilia.
"I'm going to have a Christie's auction," she told Spinner. "[My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter [14-year-old Frances Bean] doesn't need to inherit a giant Hefty bag full of flannel f***ing shirts ... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit' -- that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just f***ing sell."

"We'll make a lot of money," she said, "and give a bunch of it to charity."
