I don't care that it is for the today show. Ann Curry also did a documentary recently about child labor and prostitution in India so I expect her to be a good journalist, on any TV show, in every interview. It doesn't matter whether it's about celebrities, politicians....
I would understand this kind of interview from someone like Ryan Seacrest or all those people on the E channel. whatever their names are..... not Ann Curry. |
I'm not sure what you are expecting or meaning by the word "objective"?
In America, journalists like Curry (and Walters and Couric, etc) are meant to create a mostly warm environment for the person they are interviewing if they are celebrities such as Jolie, Spears, etc in order to have them feel comfortable to speak, react, etc. It was an interview about a movie and she, several times, tried to get her to speak on the dichotomy between the role of a reporter vs paparazzi who stalk Jolie and her family. I see nothing different in Ann Curry's interview here that she has not done with every other celebrity and if you think this makes her not objective (because she's not a raving bitch to the person and shows empathy), then I suppose you aren't the intended audience for the interview. No hard feelings.
