| | | How come Courtney didn't do any time? I think her felonies were way worse than Paris Hilton's, what happened??
maybe her felonies allowed the alternative of locked down rehab and that's how she missed jail?? was that it? |

| | | The thing is, in California, there are so many mother fucking people in jail. Judges hate putting people in jail, especially for drug stuff. Once Courtney seemed to be clean, there was no point in making a jail more crowded, since all of her violations stemmed from her crack-whore-itude, which she took care of by going to rehab.
I think it's not surprising at all that Courtney didn't get jail time and Paris did. Paris violated a judges order -- and not simply because she's some drug addict with poor judgment -- she just didn't want to follow it and got caught. |

| | | I can't stand that CVourtz didn't get the fucking death penalty. Martyrdom is the ultimate freedom, and stuff. I still kind of like her.

Yeah, it was a plea bargain deal. Jail or rehab. Guess it did her some good but every addict trades one addiction for another. Now she's addicted to losing weight... and selling off Kurt's legacy. If I were Kurt's widow I'd put all his stuff in storage and give it to my kid when she comes of age and let her decide what to do with it.

YOU KNOWS IT. | Totally. And I support this, seeing as it doesn't apply to Pariz.

| | | ‘Felony’ isn’t synonymous with ‘crime,’ it’s a particular degree of crime (“One of several grave crimes, such as murder, rape, or burglary, punishable by a more stringent sentence than that given for a misdemeanor,” according to the American heritage dictionary). Admittedly, I don’t have any real idea whether what either of them were charged with is actually a felony, but based on that definition, it sounds as though the answer to that is no.
I asked kr’s in-house legal people once if the sentences Courtney was getting were typical, or if any non-celebrity charged with such would be imprisoned already, and was surprised when the answer was that they thought it was typical – that anyone, with a prior record no worse than whatever Courtney’s is would most likely have received exactly the same sentences. I haven’t asked this about Paris. But even as a non-lawyer I can easily see one big difference, which has already been mentioned several times here, the substance abuse factor.

Paris intentionally drove while knowing her license to DRIVE was suspended. She endangered the lives of countless paparazzi's and a few civilians as well. Nicole Richie should have the book thrown at her (literally) because of her nutty move of driving the wrong way on a freeway. |

It's driving under the influence that I am puzzled about. I know that in Maryland, I used to see tons of guys get sentenced for a year or two and it was their first offense. I used to work as a bail bondsman and there was always the repeat offender dude who bounced in and out of jail anyway, but many times it was just a cornfed whiteboy who had never traveled outside the briar patch and when he did, he was driving drunk. |
