George Lucas on Spider Man

At the Time 100 party in NYC on Tuesday night, Lucas said, "[Spider-Man 3] It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there? People thought Star Wars was silly, too, but it wasn't."

yeah, because Star Wars is sooooo deep.

Star Wars dealt with the same exact themes, good vs. evil, love, loss, heroism, brotherhood etc. so I don't know what he is on about.

And HCH is right, his whole career has been based on the legacy of Star Wars. And no one even bring up those 2 other crappy films he directed.

I don't hate him but he does annoys me.

I think he's been very dismissive of Star Wars fans.

How else do you explain Jar Jar Binks.

I am sure back during the late 80's/early 90's when the Batman franchise was exploding and breaking box office records, he probably deemed those films silly too.

I heard the current one wasn't very good, but I'm a fan of the Spiderman movies.

I'm a fan of Star Wars too, or at least the good ones, by which I mean the oringinal three (actually, if I go movie-by-movie, I'll say Jedi wasn't really all that good) and the very most recent one. Lucas has always appeared to be pretty much a little bitch, but I can't totally hate him, because in the eight years of my life before the first Star Wars I was never once the right age for anything as it happened, and in the thirty years since, this has never happened again. Being born in '69 is pretty much a kick in the teeth, except that eight was the perfect age to be when Star Wars first came out.

And, not that he's not crusing on something he did a lifetime ago, but people do that all the time in Hollywood, and mostly it's stuff of far less import. It was way beyond just movie of the year for that year or anything like that.

I think appreciation for Jedi has gone up. Phantom Menace, & Attack Of The Clones, were rather weak in comparison to Jedi. Revenge of the Sith was better, but I'd still rank it below Jedi. IMHO.

I just read that he's making two more big screen films for Star Wars but the main people will not be Skywalkers.

I was hoping the Timothy Zahn novels from the early 90's would be turned into films. I liked the idea of Luke training Hahn & Lea's children to become Jedi Knights. And Mara Jade! Luke's future wife and mother of Ben Skywalker!

Poo.

I don't really give a shit about Spiderman, but I'd have to say he's right about Spiderman 3. It really wasn't all that great, not much of a plot besides woo-hoo I'm flying around again, yay.

Even my husband (who loves the first two) thought this one blew.
