Is there any Germans here that can verify the popularity of The Hoff in there country?
As a reliable representative for my country I can honestly say that we do not worship him and we certainly do not owe the tearing down of the berlin wall to him. (though some of us might enjoy watching reruns of baywatch on tv )

Exactly. He was kind of a One Hit Wonder, true, but that was, what, 200 yrs ago? He's rather regarded with pity even here these days.

Well, my German friend confessed to me that when she was 5 she wanted him as a birthday present. Other than that, I have never witnessed any Hoff worship at all.
I think it was a joke 'He's big in Germany'
Because well, German music.
haha thanks.
anyways, maybe it was because he claimed that it was thanks to him that the wall in berlin was teared down. and maybe people believed this and thought we were very thankful or something?
