Exactly. What about Ben Kingsley as Ghandi?

Why not just play the role straight? Why darken your skin, eyes and hair? My bet is that in the role where Halle Berry (was it Monster's Ball?) played someone who was orginally white she didn't bleach her skin first.
But race politics aside, I just think she looks foolish. |
This is not in any way comparable to Jolson or minstrel shows. She's not "blacking up" to mock or disparage black people or their culture: she was chosen for a role because she is an actress and the person chosen as most suited for the role. If she needs to wear darker contact lenses and a tan foundation for that, then so be it.
Jesus Christ - there is no issue here but for those who want one.
And the point of Monster's Ball is that Halle Berry's character was black. I don't know what you're thinking of. Some characters are not race-specific though, and then it really doesn't matter who plays them. Some are race-specific, and if the best actor for the part is not of that race then it's not going to work unless they appear to be. This is not offensive.
I think Jolie looks like she fits the role. She looks odd to me, but you know why that is? Because she doesn't look sexy. And no, I'm not saying she doesn't look sexy because of her character's race, but because of her non-Jolie make-up. I hope she's fucking brilliant in this film.
