I think my people hit New York basically
just before the famine, which probably gave them the opportunity to lord it over new arrivals. There was still contact with Auld Country relatives during my father's childhood, so I'd probably know if the name was screwed with (I got this annoying love for detailing the Family Immigration Stories from him). But I do tend to forget if I don't think about it that Dad didn't know the actual person who came over - his other three grandparents were all immigrants.
