| | | Pink goes anti-wool Pink fronts anti-wool campaign
20/12/2006 - 11:41:50
Animal lover Pink is on the attack again - she has launched a global boycott of Australian wool. The rock star has signed on to host a new People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) video exposing lamb mutilations and sheep cruelty.
The outspoken singer says: "I am calling on consumers to check labels on sweaters before buying them, and if they're merino wool or made in Australia, to leave them on the racks."
At a news conference held just before her concert at the Paris Bercy arena in France yesterday, Pink premiered her new video expose of Australian wool cruelty. In the disturbing four-minute video, which is being launched on the internet, Pink shows viewers the suffering that merino sheep endure in the Australian wool industry.
She agreed to front the film after learning that millions of lambs are mutilated each year by having chunks of skin carved from their backsides-without any pain relief, in a practice known as "mulesing".
In the harrowing video, Pink says: "If you're like most people, you already refuse to wear fur because of the obvious cruelty involved, and, like me, you may even look for the stylish alternatives to leather.
"But what about wool? Most of us have never thought about it. Sadly, like any other industry that uses animals, the wool trade uses methods so sadistic that it makes you consider clearing your closet of any animal products." in other fur news.......
Rap mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs' fashion label Sean John is at the centre of controversy after an animal rights charity discovered his 'faux fur jacket' is actually made from raccoon fur.
The Humane Society Of The United States (HSUS) claim Macy's department store chain is selling a coat advertised as having an "imitation rabbit fur collar" and "nylon/faux fur/goose down".
The HSUS bought the article, only to find the labels stated the jacket was made from "genuine raccoon fur".
The HSUS is doing DNA testing on the fur to determine whether or not the fur is raccoon dog, a breed of Chinese dog whose fur resembles racoon.
If DNA tests prove conclusive, Macy's will remove the coats from their stores because they have a strict no dog or cat fur policy. again more fur news......
Actress Christina Ricci has pledged never to wear fur again after being deluged with angry letters from fans.
The movie star was named People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) Worst Dressed Celebrity of 2006 after she appeared in fur on the cover of W magazine, and now she's desperate to make amends.
In a letter to the animal rights organisation, The Addams Family star insists she'll be fur-free in 2007.
She writes: "After being named on the PETA worst-dressed list for wearing fur on the cover of W magazine, I have been deluged with angry and disappointed fans.
"I never meant to hurt nor anger anyone with my insensitivity. For what it is worth I have received the message loud and clear and will not be wearing fur in the future. I apologise for my offensive actions."
A website devoted to Ricci was recently shut down when the owner spotted the star posing in reindeer fur on the cover of the fashion magazine.
A representative for PETA says Ricci's name has been removed from the Worst Dressed list.In addition, the animal rights group is also sending her a Christmas basket full of "cruelty-free goodies to thank her for her compassionate decision".
Between Madonna, Pink, Christina and P. Diddy, Peta is having a fucking field day over celebs winter coats and taking the high and mighty down a peg or two. |

| | | the Christina Ricci W cover was appalling. It was such a blatant in your face display of fur. The next issue, the readers react section was flooded with negative feedback, people criticizing the mag, some even said they were cancelling their subscriptions and I think that's great.
Fur shouldn't be condoned. Sure, it's gorgeous, but common it's fucking cruel. Some people say wearing fur is the same as eating meat, I disagree. You are wearing fur to look cool, you are eating meat to live, even if you can eat vegetables only, it's still valid in my book to eat meat. |

| | | this is only australiam merino sheep. the merino has large folds of skin in order to get more wool pr pound of sheep. the folds give more surface to grow wool.
anyways, they have a huge flystrike problem which kills the sheep. the folds of skin around the anus collect feces and basically rot and the flies breed in those folds and then the larvae feed on the necrotic and living tissue and infect the animal. it happens very very quickly.
so the sheepherders cut the skin around the anus. the procedure is called museling.
i do not buy australian merino wool yarn bc of this. there are other more time consuming ways of caring for the sheep. i think that although more time consuming this should factor into the care of the sheep. museling is really gross.

I went full blown vegetarian over a month ago. It's been great. Not to mention I've dropped 12lbs & my skin looks a hell of a lot better. I haven't even had a craving for meat. So... Quote: |

But I did think you were talking about her campaign & laughing at it, because you think she's a dip shit. So, I was saying, I think she's a dip shit too, but that I think its great she's helping to expose cruelty. Sorry for the confusion. |

| thanks for saying this.
no one should boycott australian sheep. the industry are working on alternatives to help the problem too. sheep shearing is one of our national icons, dont damn us for it!
