He was with her during her cleaned up "hollywood actress" phase, so I don't think she was that crazy at the time. Also they're both intellectuals, so they had that in common.

he calmed her down alot. i remember reading an interview once where courtney said, she realised that soul mate and love of your life are two different things. she referred to kurt as being a soul mate i.e someone who you can be yourself around and do whatever you want,someone that you can be your worst with and love of your life (ed norton) as being the person that matures you and brings out the very best in you. I think at that stage in her life/career thats what she wanted.
