Film festivals
Little Ashes premiered at the 16th annual Raindance Film Festival in London. The sold-out screening was scheduled on 7 October 2008 at 19:00. A second screening was also added for the 8th of October at 14:30.. Little Ashes premiered in the U.S. a the Miami Gay & Lesbian film festival, where is was welcomed by the gay crowd, but not celebrated. On the opposite side of the coin, young girls and women, still swooning over Robert Pattinson, built in depth fan websites like The Little Ashes Promo Blitz and started rassroots efforts to get theaters to play the movie at.
Theatrical Release
Based on their advertising buys and lack of mainstream visibility, the distribution company appeared to have no confidence in the young female demographic and pitched the movie exclusively to gay audiences. Young "fan girls" reported on IMDb.com and other forums that even the gay theaters didn't appear to have any gays in the audience, only girls, women, and "date night" couples. That core group of fans appears to have kept Little Ashes in the top 50 films during its opening weeks, according to Daily Variety and Rentrak.
