Russian students

I'm a first generation American, both my parents were born in Russia. My mother moved to the US when she was in her teens and my father in his 20s. When I was a toddler my parents were all gung-ho about about teaching me their native language, but eventually they only used russian to fight, and then stopped speaking to eachother all together.

So now I'm trying to learn it on my own. I took one semester at university, and am going to start at the boston language institute in september. Hopefully, next year I'll be able to go abroad for two semesters.

Anyone else trying to comprehend this fucked up language?

I made a not-so-successful attempt to learn the basics last summer in my bid to understand War & Peace in it's intended wording. Alot more difficult than I had anticipated :-/ . Привет, действительно ли Вы - капуста?

i took a year of it in college and have done some studying on my own, but i gave up. i don't have the patience nor anyone to practice with. i could see myself trying it again at some point in the future, but it's not a priority at the moment.

I'm taking Russian at the U of M. It's so confusing, but I really love it.

True Story: I got my first non-A in college in this class and almost cried.

Are you taking lessons now? Maybe we could figure out a way to practice together, because my fellow students aren't interested, the Russian students have their own clique, and my friends can't help me like they could with Spanish because of the Cyrillic alphabet deal.

Kind of a screwjob, I guess.

i'm not currently studying, but i'd be willing to brush up if you'd like to practice. this forum is almost dead, but maybe the others will see it and maybe participate?

Я говорю по-русски очень плохо.
