English help

Hello!

A couple of weeks ago I came on here and asked for help with grammer. People were very helpful at that time and now I have one thing I am not certain of.

Now, like then , I'm trying to submit an application to a school (different one). I want to explain in my statement how I got interested in the topic I want to study. Here's how I plan to state it:

"My intereste in anxiety research emerged during my studies at X University when I had the opportunity to work as a research assistant for the university's "such and such lab."

Now, I showed my statement to my bf and he says it should read "where" not "when" after X University. I'm confussed coz I try to give a sort of history of my interest and since I'm referring to time I think "when" is fine. I'm confussed and this came up right before sending the statement.

Can someone who is a native English speaker or good with English tell me if it should be "when" or "where" ?

Thank you!

i don't know if it's a typo or not, but "interest" doesn't have an 'e' at the end.

as for 'where' and 'when,' it's a matter of preference. 'where' obviously describes location ("the university where i studied...."). 'when,' as you said, deals with time, but since you added "for the university's 'such and such lab,'" you gave the location. 'where' would sound redundant to me. 'when' is fine.

thank you! yes, the "e" is a typo, in my statement it is spelled right. I left the sentence with "when" like it was originally before I got confussed.
