| | | High Heels I want to start wearing heels on a daily basis but find it hard to get more than ten minutes down the road without getting blisters or being able to walk!
For nights out and gigs its ok because you walk less and get taxis etc, but to last the whole day is almost impossible! I've tried Scholl Party Feet but they don't seem to work for me.
Any tips/advice? Is it really possible to ''break in'' a pair of shoes until they stop hurting?
Heels look so much better on me than flats...being a girl is hard work! |

| | | I used to wear heels a lot. I always seemed to have the most uncomfortable shoes, until one day I got so fucking sick of it, and I decided never to buy heels again. They are so damn uncomfortable and impractical. I don't think it's worth it. Being uncomfortable and not being able to walk in your shoes isn't sexy. I buy only flats now. |

| Okay, torturing yourself to look only slightly better is stupid, but who the hell am I to talk, I do it myself.
Follow .parisian's advice. Wearing them in around the house is the only way to do it. Preferably with stockings. |

| | Try to get a heel that's slightly wider/ more substantial to even the weight out. Wearing stiletos puts far more pressure on the heel of your foot, making it more painful. I bought these a few weeks ago, and they are honestly the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.
Also, make sure that they are a really good fit! There's nothing worse than shoes slipping on and off your feet, in turn giving you blisters. If you find it hard to find shoes that fit perfectly it might be a good idea to try sling backs, as there's no back to rub your heel and the strap will keep the shoes firmly in place. |

Because last I heard, we were free-thinking beings capable of making our own choices, idiot. I'm 5'1" and I've never worn heels a day in my life, because they're uncomfortable as hell, and no one has ever said anything to me about wearing flats, or that I should try heels out. Nor to my mother, or any other woman I know who doesn't wear them. A woman's own materialism is forcing her to, not society. And no, I'm not some angry feminist, before you ask or call me that. |

| | | i think you're just buying the wrong shoes. i have tons of heels that are comfortable. they are made with soft squishy bottoms/insets and the leather isn't tight so it doesn't scrap up against my ankles. i think you need to spend the $$ and invest in a nice pair of heels. it's possible to find. |

| | | I'm trying to get back into the whole wearing high heals more often thing! I used to wear really high healed boots for school everyday when I was 15/16 and not once did they hurt but then i got lazy and wore trainers for about 2 years in college! Now I have the same trouble and can last about four hours max in high heals...and that's generally just standing about in clubs rather than doing any actual walking! I'm just trying to break in all my shoes by walking around the house as much as poss in them.
Oh and those Scholl Party Feet things are indeed shite! |

| | | a few tips... -start by wearing your heels on a soft surface like carpet.. then move onto a solid floor.. then concrete
-stacked heels before stillettos (more fashionable away)
-look for a small platform under the toe part or a wedge see the slight platform under the toe? look for that. not those heels, those are too high for you.
-stand straight
-take wider strides
-if you are a slow walker, speed up a little... i find it easier to wear heels if i make wide, swift strides. also move your hips when you walk, sort of like a model but not so dramatic.
-start at 2.5 inches, then move up... i'd range for a 3.5 to 4 inch heel personally max
-don't buy cheap shoes
-this is true for heeled boots: heel and toe taps save your soles and your feet
-pedicures
-sometimes a little bit of lotion will help secure your foot in your shoe
-if you have narrow feet stay away from d'orsys (spelling?) and look for an ankle strap
-also, take your shoes off in the taxi and rub your feet, its a free zone. and at your desk if you're at work. sitting for a long time in heels makes my legs tingle.
all else fails, go back to flats. flats are chic if you wear them right.
i used to be able to run in 4 inch heels but i don't much wear heels anyone save for wedges or a special occassion. i walk too damn much.

I know we're free-thinking beings. For fuck sake.
It's just that in our media saturated society, women (in general) feel that they need to be sexy 24/7. As I said later in my post, it's a shame more don't rebel. I don't believe that wearing heels is about materialism. I think most women do it for their self-esteem.
I wouldn't call you a feminist. I'm one myself. |

agreed.
i used to buy cheap heels, once i started really investing in my shoes and making great purchases, i found the most comfortable shoes for me.....and now i pretty much stick to the same three brands...
my advice is...be patient.
i've walked in heels like every day from the time i was 18, and i love heels, i would NEVER stop buyiing them. they pretty much make me feel powerful.
treat yourself to the cutest pair of NICE heels that feel somewhat comfortable and take your time getting used to them.
you'll love it. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
