| | | t-shirt modifications i have this largeish black t-shirt from my old marching band days. it is neat and i want to wear it, but the potato sack look just isn't that flattering. i need to sew it into something wearable. what i want is
- sleeveless
- somewhat loose. not potato sack baggy, just not skin tight.
- no open back or skinny straps.
i've looked at http://community.livejournal.com/t_shirt_surgery but everything there is just cheeese. i don't want anything that looks like it was sewn by a 4 year old on acid.
so, what i want is for you to post ideas/inspiration for good fits/shapes/whatever for my shirt. it's not really that important that it follows my requirements above, if you have anything that looks good just post it anyway. |

| | | i'm not good at making large things form fitting
i never get around to making the effort
but if you have any that are tight across the chest or whatever i usually take the arms off at the seam or alternately you can cut them off along the edge of the seam and when you wash it then it will curl on the edge
and also you can take the neckline off of t-shirts which i do because i find them to be uncomfortable- i don't like the material right up next to my neck - but then w/ a t-shirt you will have to resew along the neckline to keep it laying flat and looking normal
and you can always cut the bottom hem off of something
i am more into cutting parts off than sewing i just wash it and let it curl up
i hate sewing

| | i'm still learning to sew myself, so i'm not much help.
however, i've flipped through these two books and they have some good or at least fun ideas :
out of the two i like tease better, but that's because i'm partial to the eye burrito pattern by amy sedaris. |

| | | if you have a t-shirt or tank top that you really like . . . . it fits perfect and it's the style you would like your "XXXL t-shirt" to be, you could always do what my sister does to make them small . . .
-Turn the XXXL t-shirt inside out and lay it down on the floor.
-Then turn the perfect t-shirt inside out and lay it on top of the XXXL one.
-match up the neck lines and then take a white pencil(or what ever color that will show up on the material) and trace the out line of the perfect t-shirt on to the super big one. If your not the best at sewing make sure you leave a little extra to the hem so it's easier to work with.
-Then cut off the extra material from the big one and pin it together, and sew.
Note: it the big shirt is really really big, you may have to remove the sleaves make them smaller by measuring to the perfect shirt and then sew them back on. This may be a little tricky if you really suck at sewing, but if you wanted it to be a tank top then you don't have to worry about this! |

| | I have altered t-shirts many times. I hate wearing regular t-shirts... they have to be small and fitted.
I've used a lot of trial and error to teach myself how to do it.
But this is an EXCELLENT site.. check it out: http://ohmystars.net/craft/index.htm
*edit* someone beat me to it. Well it's still probably the greatest clothing DIY site out there. |
