any ideas? | If it's 30 minutes I wouldn't bother trying to dress well. Wear comfortable clothes which are good for cycling, and carry your better clothes with you in a pack, or something. Maybe you could even keep a few changes of clothes at work if you can wash them there, and wouldn't need to wear them anywhere else. Is there a shower at work?
Unless you're a super-relaxed cyclist, you'll probably end up at least a little sweaty after half an hour.
Spandex. All spandex.

And there is a solution: SHOWER IN A CAN

| | | you could look for places in the area with showering facilities (public pools, sneak into unis). i used to work at the local pool and there were always cyclists/runners coming in to shower for work. |

| | | i think biking to work is quite popular in the US, especially in cities. when i see people doing it there dress pants are usually tucked into their socks (im not sure why) but jfk jr. was famous for riding his bike to work and around nyc instead of taking the usual car service everywhere like most kennedy's do/did. |

| | I've seen many bike riders looking supercool around here but also some MAJOR fashion errors, why is the lycra neccessary and why neon? It's day time and they're going to work, they're not in the tour de france so they don't need to be that aerodynamic. Though I suppose you'd want to avoid chafing...sorry I'm not very helpful.
For the sweat issue, there used to be these deoderant wipes you could get, like a baby wipe but with a deoderant, I used them after gigs!
As for clothes, you could go all 1950s and wear some pedal pushers, pumps and a scarf round your neck with some big sunglasses, that would work if you have an old fashioned bike with a basket on the front

| | | My boyf rides his bike to work- he's an attorney and always dresses to the 9's...I'm not sure how he does it. He always wears long john underneath his work pants during the winter months, though. |

| | | I'm an occasional cyclist-to-work, and I'm only about 15 minutes ride, and quite an "athletic" pedaller. Likewise, I have no shower facilities.
My one favoured tactic is just carrying my smarter work clothes in my bag, and wearing my riding kit on the bike. By riding kit, I mean a pair of NON-SKINTIGHT 3/4 length shorts. And the holy grail... the Helly Hansen Lifa base layer. It's just bordering on tight-fitting without going the whole hog, and does a wonderful job at keeping you dry when you're getting all sweaty and rank. I usually just grab a quick wash and get changed in the disabled toilet. |

| | | i wear gym clothes and carry my work clothes in a backpack, but i hate wearing the backpack cause i get more sweaty.
i'm going to eventualy get bike panniers.
i have a shower before i go to work but i bring a towel to dab the sweat off and then go to the dunnies and wet some paper and wipe the sweat off. but baby wet wipes are very very handy for this sort of thing.
i also use crystal stick deodorent and thats a handy one, doesn't have a scent and keeps you fairly dry |

| | I'd totally recommend panniers if you're hauling it on long distances, but for short distances, I find them to just be more of a pain than they're worth.
Good alternative to a backpack might be a courier bag, a lot of cyclists I know prefer these, although I'm not much of a fan myself.
Either that, or go for my preferred option - a good backpack with back ventilation built into it Vaude especially do some good ones, they have a taut mesh that sorta "suspends" the actual pack contents just off your back, meaning lots of lovely cool breeze | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
