| Try somewhere a bit more classy than Debenhams or the other departments stores. It doesn't have to be a prom dress, full length with all the silly trimmings - you could get a lovely dress that you'd be able to wear more than once. Mine was from Karen Millen, and although I can't afford anything in there now, they have some covetable dresses in the windows at the moment...
I've just bought a 50s prom dress for £35, from my favourite vintage shop; I need an opportunity to wear it, but I couldn't resist! It says "Frank Usher" on the label, which my mum says is good, although I don't know anything about brands. If that's your thing and there are shops near where you live, vintage is always awesome. And you can pretty much guarantee that no-one will have the same dress on as you.
TKMaxx can either be a blessing or plain hell. Well, it's always hell looking for things in there, but sometimes you can pick up something that makes the effort worthwhile. I don't find it a very enjoyable shopping experience though...a lot of people at my ball had TKMaxx dresses and you can often tell. But give it a try, if you have a few hours to spare, by all means.
I saw some really nice 50s style halter dresses on ebay, but I think I've lost the link. They were from an ebay shop so there were all the sizes you could have wanted; have a look on ebay, you might be surprised.
Good luck! |
