Prom, UK..

i've looked near enough every where and i haven't seen a single dress that i can imagine myself in. What I want is a low cut top and a SLIGHTLY 'puffy' or 'netty' bottonm. I would also prefer it in a dark shade of red. Could anyone give me advice on where I can find such dresses, as the shops i have looked in seem to consist of HUGE princess like dresses, which i find over the top and tacky. can u give me useful info please? thanks.

Try somewhere a bit more classy than Debenhams or the other departments stores. It doesn't have to be a prom dress, full length with all the silly trimmings - you could get a lovely dress that you'd be able to wear more than once. Mine was from Karen Millen, and although I can't afford anything in there now, they have some covetable dresses in the windows at the moment...

I've just bought a 50s prom dress for £35, from my favourite vintage shop; I need an opportunity to wear it, but I couldn't resist! It says "Frank Usher" on the label, which my mum says is good, although I don't know anything about brands. If that's your thing and there are shops near where you live, vintage is always awesome. And you can pretty much guarantee that no-one will have the same dress on as you.

TKMaxx can either be a blessing or plain hell. Well, it's always hell looking for things in there, but sometimes you can pick up something that makes the effort worthwhile. I don't find it a very enjoyable shopping experience though...a lot of people at my ball had TKMaxx dresses and you can often tell. But give it a try, if you have a few hours to spare, by all means.

I saw some really nice 50s style halter dresses on ebay, but I think I've lost the link. They were from an ebay shop so there were all the sizes you could have wanted; have a look on ebay, you might be surprised.

Good luck!

At my school 'prom' everyone turned up in a 50's style prom dress, but I chose something different and I was so glad. They were ALL in the same dress almost, but in a different pattern, all the same puffy/'netty' bottom.

But if you want it that's cool. I got one like that from Karen Millen for a wedding, they have beautiful dresses, and not really like those you would find in other shops.

i would ebay it for a vintage dress. i loathe the thought of turning up in a dress that someone else has, and this is one way to make sure this doesn't happen.
also, i would check the american ebay, there's a much wider variety of prom dresses and that's where i got the dress i wore to my prom. it wasn't expensive & only came to about £60 including postage
