| | | can you dye tulle? y/n? basically i'm little red riding hood for halloween. but it's got a gothic/punk rock flair to it & i want my skirt to be a petticoat/tutu-type.
i went to my local thriftstores but of course i only found WHITE petticoats & i need black or red.
can you dye tulle?
and/or, is tulle easy to sew together? because maybe i'll just make it myself. |

| | | yes.
its synethic right? just use rit dye. it dyes pretty much anything.
i would recommend draping the tulle first, basting it and then sewing it if you dont have a pattern.

i made a pillow case once in 8th grade.
that being said i found http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=22205
& it seems fairly easy. should i give it the old heave ho? or should i just stick to buying a petticoat from the thrift store.

well i went out and bought 6 yards of red & 6 yards of black tulle anyway. whatever, if i can't make a skirt out of it, i'll just sell it on craftser or something.
i will keep looking for petticoats though, the one i found today was 29.99 USED & ffs, i could buy a squaredancing petticoat for 35. & it'd be brand new. so whatevs.
i don't know what you should do, maybe ask clotty. or maybe i'll ask her for you. i'm pretty sure she'll say whatever's easiest on you. & whatever the seller doesn't have an issue with. |

| | | ask clotty for me.
i read those instructions that girl gave and you do that so much easier if you werent worried about wearing it later. and i've actually done this. take a slip in the length you want your tulle skirt to be. then baste stitch your tulle. you can even baste two ends of long tulle together, like a sandmich you know, and then cut the bottom so you get layers in one shot. then after you baste all your layers, sew them on to your slip. trim up the top, cut the hem to the length you want and sew on a waist band.

baste stitching is basically really lose, open stitches along the edge of your fabric so you can pull it, like gathering. you do it to set in sleeves or ruffling. you can do it on your machine if you have one. just set it on the looset stitch you have. http://www.ehow.com/how_5843_baste-hem-seam.html
read that, explaining sewing is hard drunks.
