Kate Moss to launch Topshop range

Supermodel Kate Moss is swapping the catwalk for a design studio, creating a new fashion range for High Street retailer Topshop.

The collection will launch in Spring 2007 across the retailer's 308 stores and on its website.

A tie-up was predicted after Ms Moss was seen at Topshop's London Fashion Week show, sitting next to Sir Philip Green, the chain's billionaire owner.

The deal is another stage in Ms Moss's recovery from drug use allegations.

Pictures of Ms Moss allegedly snorting cocaine were reported in the press in September 2005, resulting in the loss of a number of major modelling contracts.

But less than twelve months later, the waifish style icon's comeback has seen her profile reach new heights.

She is currently featured in at least 15 major campaigns for clients including Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Stella McCartney, Bulgari, Chanel, Nikon, Versace, Calvin Klein Jeans and Burberry.

Her annual income is believed to have risen to about £30m.

"Kate has a unique position as a true fashion icon and I look forward to helping develop 'Kate Moss for Topshop' into a global brand," said Sir Philip, who took a personal role in striking the deal.

Away from the catwalk, Ms Moss' own wardrobe choices have given her a reputation for setting new fashion trends.

In recent years she has been credited with sparking the return to fashion of skinny jeans, mini-dresses and hot-pants.

Any takers? I think some pieces could be really nice. Although hoards of Kate wannabes will probably buy everything up before it even hits the shelves.

I'm actually really glad to see Kate coming back on the model scene.
Not that I was thrilled about the coke blowing, but I missed her look

oh jesus christ. as if there weren't enough topshop clones already. i think this is going to be a repeat of what happened with stella mccartney's line for h&m - which was mostly really, really lovely - but impossible to get hold of unless you're willing to pay double on ebay. i love topshop as much as the next person, but you've honestly got to have the figure of kate moss to pull off most of their stuff at the moment.
