| | | The quest for a coffee table In a moment of hopeless indicision I am hoping that the mods will indulge me and let me use this forum for a home fashion question.
I have scoured the earth looking for a coffee table to compliment my new couch. I really just wanted something that would store my dvds (since a friend kindly pointed out that having every season of buffy/angel/xfiles might scare away newbies to my livingroom).
After having seen every single fugly and overprices coffee table in this city I was left with two options:
1. This chest from Pier 1 that I LOVE for $350:
or
2. This bench/ottoman/coffee table that I bought from the grocery store for $150. I thought I could put some nice baskets or boxes on that lower shelf to hold the DVDs (you can see just how very many there are). I ended up buying this one, but I am worried it's taking over the livingroom. I really want the chest but I just can't rationalize the extra money right now.
Please help me rationalize the extra 200 dollars, or tell me that the bench looks ok. No. Fuck ok. It has to look good. Or at least tell me that the chest will not look better. Or tell me it will look 200 dollars better. To be fair I'm not sure either is 100% right, but I've scoured the earth!
P.S. please ignore the shite lens on my shite camera - the room isn't actually crooked. Also, that picture makes me hare parquet. |

| | Idunno how much money you're looking to spend, but Target.com usually had some pretty cool coffee tables & not too pricey either. Sometimes they even offer free shipping on furniture items.
I like that bench/table thing you have going now, but I'm not sure how practical it is for actual coffee/drinks/plates/etc. Seems like they're fall off |

I think the bench looks fine, especially if you get some nicer boxes for the DVDs so there's not just sitting on there. |

I couldn't find anything (except curtains that I don't really need). I think that having the DVDs stored nicely should help. |

| | | I know they're hideous and tacky, but you seem like a fairly post-modern person, and may I recommend to you one of those 80s style wicker tables with clear glass tops? They were ugly, but awesome. Don't have a picture handy, sorry. |

| | | Probably not what you want to hear but the chest looks much better (neater, less cluttery) than the bench. However, the bench could easily double as a massage table, so you want to consider that as well. |

What? No??
I was thinking more like this:
Or maybe getting some plain boxes and covering them with something nice... |

The bench stays!
Also, Eggy - if you want me to analyse you, you can lie on the bench.

Disgusting, but (for me) in a good way. A wicker ubrella stand might work too. Also, probably very cheap. Someone needs to find a picture of one and put it up. |
