| | | For those of you who make your own clothes... Do any of you know of a good place where I can buy fabric? With cool patterns on...I know that a lot are printed on, but you must be able to buy them from somewhere. I don't really know of any shops near where I live where I can buy it; website links would be appreciated.
The idea was to have a go at making some A line skirts, they can't be that difficult! I want to learn how to sew this summer...or at least, have a good go. |

| | | um surely there are fabric shops in every town?
i can think of about 30 in my town off the top of my head.
if you find one that doesn't have anything you're looking for, ask them if you can look at some catalogues and maybe they'll order in what you want.
it's best to buy fabric where you can feel it, to guage the weight, pattern, etc. i wouldn't buy fabric online, and i find it hard to believe they don't have a fabric shop where you live.
yellow pages?

| | In cities there are usually a few large fabric warehouses. I'm sure if you looked through the phone book you could find a couple. They tend to be grouped in the same area in any case, which should be convenient. This site could be helpful if you want some clothing patterns. There are quite a few that are free. |

Patterns, good idea. Thanks for the link, kathy...that really makes me wish I could actually do this. I'm usually terrible at making actual, physical things although I get it eventually. I was awful at ceramics to begin with, so maybe the same could happen here.

I don't know if I like the idea of buying fabric off the internet, but if I saw something really cool... |

| | Ah right... This company have a warehouse in liverpool that I go to which is quite good. I'm not sure if stoke-on-trent is a bit out of the way for you but they have one there too. They also have one in Manchester.
I would think that there are quite a lot of places in Birmingham you could go to for fabric. I know there's a big fabric market somewhere, though I really don't know anything about it to tell you. |

| | | You can buy wholesale/retro/contemporary/antique fabrics on ebay.
If you're interested in making A line skirts then check-out the ones 'Get Cutie' make. They're so simple. UK google them, or again, they're often on ebay. |

I'm bad at directing, but basically if you head down from the Bull Ring towards Snow Hill, you might bump into it. I've not been for a fair few years so I don't know if it even still exists, I haven't been since the Old Bull Ring was standing, but I know alot of my friends used to buy fabric from there.
Find a Fabric Land if you can because that's where you can buy a variety of textures and prices of fabric.
