| | | Nose Piercings - Scarring/Collapsed Cartilage? Not sure whether to put this in Health&Wellbeing, or what...
Ok, so i'm off to get my nose pierced tomorrow (nostril), i'm a little scared though as I've heard it can damage the cartilage in your nose very badly, and apparently alot of people get left with whacking great scars. Now this is just according to friends..but has it happened to anyone here? Can scarring be prevented? Will there be a scar regardless? How big will it be?
Is there really a risk of my nose collapsing?
I would be very grateful if someone would give me some info, alot of sites i've tried just have ''how to take care of your piercing' guidelines.
Please and Thx! x |

| | | No matter where you get pierced you're gonna have a scare but I don't think that it damages the cartliage I have my nose pierced and not any problems. Scarring will happen regaurdless. and NO your nose will not collapse...that's just a big ol' myth to scare you from doing such. |

| | | some people get scars, some dont. i think it depends on the shape of your nose and where they put the hole. mines right in the crease of my nostril. also i've been wearing a ring, not a stud, and the bar that actually goes through your skin is much thinner than most studs so it doesn't stretch the skin. i have had a nosering for 5 yours now, and when the ring is out, you can't even see the hole. if it does scar, it will be a small round scar the size of the hole
i don't know about cartilage damage, i didn't think there was any cartilage in the nostril. i sincerely doubt your nose will collapse.
i would suggest you get it pierced by a professional piercer who uses a needle. i had mine shot through with an earpiercing gun (i was young, it was cheap) which was unpleasant. it costs more but it's worth it because the stud they put in is smaller etc.

| | I have a scar from an old nose piercing. It just looks like a spot on the side of my nose. It isn't that huge
I've always had major problems with nose piercings, and now I've just given up forever. But that doesn't mean you necessarily will - my lip piercings have have never caused me any trouble. I must just have a stupid nose |

i think it's all the luck of the draw

Please and Thx! x | you should go in and actually talk to the piercer if you're worried. as long as they use a new needle and everything is sterilized, you shouldn't have any problems with it though. my nose piercing got really infected (my fault- used the wrong salt *dumb*) and even then the 'scar' is barely there.
sounds like your friends are unintentionally just making you paranoid. |

| | | Thx for helping guys..ok well i rang ahead, they definitely use needles, never guns (which is just as well because i heard so many horror stories about people getting their noses pierced with guns..)...
Also, ok this sounds fucking ridiculous, but i have to ask: Has anyone ever heard of someone inhaling the back of a nose stud/pin, thus choking on it and dying?
- I'm a bit paranoid. But I figure I could breathe through my mouth for a couple of years though. |

| | | NO.
the stud will never ever be sucked in through your nose piercing, unless a) you breathe like a vacuum cleaner, b) you have a big sloppy nose piercing and the stud is ridiculously small or c) you are the unluckiest person ever.

Oh I'm all excited! I'm gonna get it done. Any reply so far been almost 100% positive, and there was a thread on another forum much the same, nobody had any complaints there...
Yet another Q:But is it gross when you have a cold? Can you blow your nose?
Would the stud ever come shooting out of your nose when you blew it?
How tight is the piercing? -Sewing Needle? |

| | | it's a bit gross when you have a cold beacuse snot does get stuck to the back of it. it doesn't affect the actual noseblowing but sometimes the stud will hook in the tisseue and pull out, which hurts but not that much.
as for the stud shooting out of your nose: it's never happened to me
sometimes when i'm about to go to sleep it whistles a bit when i breathe but that's all

- I'm a bit paranoid. But I figure I could breathe through my mouth for a couple of years though. | a couple of years, lol. don't worry so much hun! as far as i know they don't even put a backing on if you get the stud. it's just the stud and stays in place. (correct me if i'm wrong though cause i have a ring.) and even if that did happen in some freak accident... you'd probably just swallow it, and neither choke nor die.
i dunno if you're afraid of the actually act of piercing itself as well but remember to stay calm when you're getting it down. it's really not that bad at all. good luck! |

It's not the piercing bit that bothers me,.. it's the prospect of horrific pustulating infections on my face...but that will NOT happen. I'm gonna clean it religiously.
I'm still a bit worried about inhaling it. But ok thats so unlikely. |

| | | i only read now that you meant the back of the stud
nose pins/studs son't have packs, the either have a little teeny ball in the end to stop it falling out, or they are bent. there is no back to it, it's only one piece

| | i've had mine done twice, with a gun both times because i went to dodgy places - i've heard you should always get it done with a needle but i was 13 when i first got my first one & terrified of the pain
anyway, my first nose piercing was done with an earring gun, as in, they actually put a butterfly clip inside my nose.needless to say, it didn't heal properly and i ended up taking it out.it's left a tiny scar on my nose & a small lump of scar tissue inside, but no major hassle.
my second one is fine, it's got infected a couple of times but i treated it with salt water & it healed nicely.i can leave jewellery out of it for a few days & it doesn't close up, & i've had less trouble with it than any of my other piercings to be honest. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
