| | | Equestrian Chic I was walking the other day when Eggburn looked at me in great horror. Much to our dismay a woman was walking down the street wearing tan coloured riding pants. After a moment of debate, we concluded that she was wearing them as a fashion statement (the lack of dirt and the cloth knee patches gave it away). A really poorly executed fashion statement. This was about 2 weeks ago.
Since then it has come to my attention that equestrian-chic is back in for fall 2006. I had the misfortune of opening the Simons catalogue (similar to H&M, but bigger - for those not from Quebec) and seeing my exact pair of riding boots on the model. Of course hers were shiny and not broken in... And worn with thigh-highs...
In conclusion, equestrian-chic has to be the most absurd of all trends. If you wear riding clothes in public (and not to go to and from the barn), please post pictures. |

| | | does equestrian by accident count? because i had a moment the other day where i realized that i had by accident dressed myself like one of those odd looking horse show people. really, all that was missing was the horse and the helmet. in fact, let me recreate the moment for you (yes, i'm procrastinating. i'll take any chance to do something that doesn't involve the industrial revolution):
(yes, that's my i see now that this outfit was a mistake face)
in hindsight i realize that i was doing just fine at first. black pants, black t-shirt, chucks - looking like your average emozoid. then as i was leaving home in a hurry, it suddenly started raining. so i threw on the first jacket i found, a short blazer type thing, and changed into the rubber boots. yeah. hello there, horsey. |

And lucy, while I see what you mean, I would not pick you out on the street for wearing equestrian chic. Your outfit looks cute - not like it smacks of pseudo-bougie effort.
I'm talking pants with knee patches and actual riding boots (or boots that are trying to look like riding boots).
Ahem: http://www.simons.ca/Catalogue/PageP...5-ff0e0269bb23
Indicentally, the third page (left hand side, girl in the red plaid skirt) is where you will see my equicomfort zip boots. Heh.

| | | I saw some hats that reminded me of that at Urban Outfitters yesterday. They didn't have the same riding helmet quality, but they were certainly similar (I am trying to find a pic but the UO website is down). |

| | | I will with full embarassment admit to wearing fashion jodhpurs in the early nineties. My only salvation being that they belonged to my sister, who has ALWAYS been fashion impaired, I was just too young to know it. |

| | | this simons catalog is quite cute.
and personally, i always hated my riding helmet and did all that i could to wear it, never. it's heavy and uncomfortable and ugly. why anyone would wear it as a trend, is beyond me.
but i think the source of the equestrian look is not from a true style standpoint, but a lifestyle one. i think the equestrian fad alludes to wealth and luxugry (and jackie o, country clubs, plaid, new-preppie), rather than true fashion design. and this tardy trent has been in and out since the 50's, in one form or another, yes?

But it's one of the coolest words ever! Not to be worn in town, unless you're stopping at the shop to grab something quickly on your way home from a hard day's dressage.
Actually, equestrian words are often cool, if not the pants. How about : cavalletti "Noun- A series of timber jumps that are adjustable in height for schooling horses." |

| | guilty as charged. i love riding boots. i've wanted a pair for years now but alas the moneys for non-riding, riding boots. they are the only good looking flat boots. i stopped to lust over these this weekend:
however, i would NEVER wear them with the whole get up. i mean rly people. i'd wear them with jeans.
