| | | ebay Changes Just thought this might be of interest of people buying and selling on ebay. The first feedback change -worthy. I got these in my ebay message box, but I'm not sure when they go into effect. Someone told me May, but idk for sure. Quote:
1. Reduced Listing Fees
You asked, we listened. We're reducing Insertion Fees and adjusting Final Value Fees to lower your up-front cost to sell on eBay. You wanted free Gallery, now you've got it--plus more feature discounts.
* Lower Insertion Fees
* Making Gallery free
* Lower fees for Gallery Plus, Picture Pack, and Feature Plus
2. Rewards for great sellers
There will be discounts and incentives for those who satisfy customers best. Who decides who gets rewarded? Customers do, by giving sellers high Detailed Seller Ratings (DSRs).
* More search exposure through Best Match
* Fee discounts for PowerSellers
* Increased protection for PowerSellers
3. Feedback Changes
Significant changes coming soon will increase buyer confidence and showcase good sellers.
* Buyers will only be able to receive positive Feedback.
* Positive repeat customer Feedback will count and Feedback more than 12 months old won't.
* Negative and neutral Feedback left by the buyer will be removed for transactions in which a buyer doesn't respond to the Unpaid Item (UPI) or if the member is suspended.

| | | they go into effect on feb 20, i wish it were today!
overall i think the changes are good. the rate changes will save me quite a bit of money since i typically sell high dollar items. i think people selling items under $25 might not be so happy about the FVF increase, but for higher dollar items, the percentage has not increased. the only thing i think is odd is that buyers won't be able to receive negative feedback anymore. this opens up sellers to feedback extortion, although it seems that ebay is taking measures to protect sellers in this area. it may end up being positive in the long run. i also love that they are rewarding powersellers with discounts on FVF based on DSR ratings. i already qualify for a 5% discount and am very close to a 15% discount which would be HUGE for me. i don't know how they will calculate the DSR, i have 4.9 on 3 of the 4 categories and 4.7 on the shipping fees. they say you need a 4.8 score for the 15% discount. I sort of have a problem with the shipping fees one because i already charge really low shipping (lower than what the actual cost is), but i'm at 4.7 in that category because some people just aren't happy unless it's free. i hope they will do an average of the 4 categories, if so, my costs on FVF's will go down a full 15%, not to mention the insertion fee reduction and free gallery will save me over $1/listing from what i currently pay, so that's about $500/month in insertion fees alone that i'll be saving. overall, i'm very pleased. |

| | | Yeah, that sounds fucking stupid. What if your buyer is a flaky/sketchy character, you're just expected to either give them positive feedback or pretend it never happened?
Plus, are they saying that a buyer's feedback over a year old is just going to drop off completely? I can't see the reason for that since they already distinguish between 1 month/3 month/12 month old feedback. Anybody who has concerns over someone's feedback should be studying it and making whatever assessment based on what they see. Why do people need it spelled out for them even further, and to the detriment of the occasional user?
I've never even used ebay but even I can see how daft that is. |

| | | Lower listing fees are good. They've been getting a bit ridiculous. (Especially if you don't sell the item.) I guess if your a power seller it may not be so bad, but I'm only an occasional user. I don't like the fact that the new policy doesn't allow for giving buyers negative feedback. If a payment doesn't go through or a buyer takes too long to send payment it should be on record as such. I'm sure there are ways to go through Ebay to report them, but I still like the fact that you can go to someones profile and see what kind of a seller OR buyer they are. The deletion of old feedback also affects me as an occasional seller/buyer. |

| | That's how I feel Dawlheart.
I've had deadbeat payers multiple times and I've had to cancel bids (for people with less than 0 feedback). I think I'll probably rethink selling things there in the future.
And thank you very much for the date Brooke |
