| | | Caffeine and weight loss So I've been reading that caffeine can cause a spike in your blood sugar, and since I am aware of the pitfalls of that, I was wondering if there is any truth to it.
If I want to lose a few pounds, would it help to cut the cup of coffee I have every other day-ish? |

| | | What do you mean by a spike in your blood sugar?
I haven't heard anything akin to that, so I'm not sure. I do know that caffeine can actually boost your metabolism AND curb your appetite if used in large quantities.
Then you'd turn into the Coffee Guy from Mad TV, though. |

| | | I've read that too. Hence the need to clarify.
I don't know HOW caffeine could, but it apparently (according to what I've been reading (caveat: exclusively online and in trashy mags) does something that your body reads as a spike in the bloodsugar, so the body produces insulin.
The websites/trashy mags said that it causes the same reaction as eating a bag of chips, say; you feel satisfied/energized for a few minutes, but then you crash and feel hungrier. Also, if it is true, that would be the kind of thing that would put you at increased risk for type II diabetes. I have an irrational fear about type II diabetes.

| | according to this: http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/reprint/33/5/989
glucose plasma levels and insulin levels do not rise significantly after injesting caffeine, but free fatty acid levels do.
i only skimmed the article to see if the glucose and insulin levels were mentioned, so there might be some more interesting things to learn from it. |
