| | | Blueberry Season! so its blueberry season and reed and seth and i went to pick blueberries at a blueberry farm and OH MY GOD not only was it a blast to go out there nad pick them, but have you ever had a blueberry just picked off the bush still warm from the sun? its so so good you have to try it if you live in the right climate. we picked five pounds of blueberries in an hour or so and then laid baout in the sun while seth played on haystacks and with the old dogs that were hanging out. a really great day.
and now we have a ton of fresh blueberries. ive been eating them by the handsful and just tried them with a bit of light sour cream and a teaspoon of brown sugar to a cup of blueberries and its so delicious!
what are your favorite ways to eat blueberries? we have so many we need to come up with ways to eat them!

A smoothie. (Just puree loads of berries -and other fruits if you like- with (sugar), yogurt and a little bit of apple juice). Very refreshing.
Or:
Sorbet. Put the berries in the deep freezer until they're really frozen, then mix 2:1 with yogurt. Add sugar if you like. |

i dont know if we still have a juicer. i like the idea of getting two uses out of the same berries though.
im gonna freeze some like cala suggested. YUMMY. we are going back next week to try and get pounds and pounds for the freezer so we can have them the rest of the year. they are only 2.35 a pound when we pick them ourselves. at the store we pay 2.50 for four ounces. what we picked yesterday would have been $55.00 worth of blueberries at that price!
im gonna try a smoothie with plain yogurt, frozen bananas, and fresh blueberries
i catn seem to get pancakes right. anyone have suggestions? we dont have a griddle.

| | | how do i love thee? let me count the ways blueberry jam. no boiling or preservatives, just berries stirred with sugar. then eaten on pancakes or waffles or just kept in the fridge to eat with EVERYTHING. my favorite is fresh sourdough bread with brie and blueberry jam.
homemade blueberry ice cream.
blueberry pie with ice cream.
pancakes with ice cream and blueberries (are we starting to see a theme yet?)
(well, actually, that would be crêpes to you americans. i suppose your strange puffy little pancakes would work too, but i love filling a thin pancake with berries and ice cream and folding it like a burrito).
fresh in a bowl with powdered sugar and cream (not whipped).
with cereal.
blueberry syrup. for hot blueberry drinks when it gets colder. or iced ones right now.
blueberry cheesecake.
homemade blueberry jello (with agar agar for those not keen on gelatin).
and like cala said, frozen. eaten one by one straight from the freezer as a healthy and yummy alternative to candy.
blueberry season is not for another month here, though. around the beginning of august. i intend to pick TONS. so i can give away some to my grandparents and eat a bunch fresh and still have lots to freeze.

| | | Oh I do love blueberries, I've never tried them in any other form than loose, though. Not that I have any desire to, I love the feeling of anti-oxidation that comes with eating blueberries. So good for me, alack so expensive...and only available to me in Dunnes... |
