Depends on where you are. In some counties underage possession has a mandatory 36 hour jail time. Adults can be put in jail for supplying a minor with alcohol, and if one of them gets injured (i.e. by drunk driving) or has alcohol poisoning you can be charged with more serious things.

In the UK an adult will normally get a fine for buying alcohol on behalf of a minor, but I don't know about in america.

It's not something people get caught for often though, at least not over here. Unless you go into the supermarket and actually annouce that you're buying the alcohol for some kids, or you hand it over to them in front of a policeman or something, the odds of you getting caught are slim to none. When I was underage my friends' older siblings used to buy us alcohol all the time and they never got caught. Unless you make it really really obvious what you're doing, the shopkeeper isn't going to question you about it.

Unless you'rein Belfast city centre, we havepolice patrols, at least 10 or so people get caught every weekend, they usually just get and warning and their alcohol poured out if it's a first time offence.

i thikn it's kinda unfair though, like the 18 year old guy can't buy his 17 year old girlfriend a drink ?

I think alcohol laws should be relaxed
