Question personal training

Just wondering if anyone has ever tried this? I recently joined a gym for the first time in my life and just finished a 12-session 'get your feet wet' kind of thing (it was a good deal and I had a coupon). I found that I need the motivation - but I also feel really pathetic and sort of intimidated when I have these random muscle/built guys staring. (Not that I care that much, but it's not fun being judged).

Anyhow, now I was asked by my trainer if I wanted to comit to a longer program, and damn it's expensive -not super, but still pricey. I don't want to get ripped off - but I also think that I might actually get some results out of it.

What's a reasonable rate for a 1/2 hour session?

Not sure what a reasonable rate is, never tried it.
What are your fitness goals is the bigger question here.

I've been a jogger for 10 years, so my lower body and aerobic endurance are both 'ok'. I guess my goals would be toning, upper body strength, and building my arms.

Problem is that aside from the occasional jog, I hate exercise.

I see you're in Toronto. Go and check these guys out.
index - Toronto Kettlebell Club

They have one on one sessions for 60 an hour but you won't need that. Just attend an open session and you'll learn enough to do the movements safely.
I think they ask (according to their schedule page) a nominal 10 dollar fee for use of space/equipment on open nights which seem to be on Mondays.

Afterwards, invest in a couple kettlebells and you'll tackle strength and cardio all in one piece of equipment that's takes up very ,very little room. And it doesn't take forever to start seeing/feeling results.

Remember diet plays a large role too in looking the part. Even more than the exercise.
Those muscleheads you saw most likely live at that gym to attain and keep that look. It's a complete day to day lifestyle.

You're probably just looking to be toned and have functional strength, kettlebells will provide that in spades. You'll notice strength gains in your core first and foremost with the basic swing movement.

$9.95

Just play a sport. An intense one. Then you can pick up a useful skill to impress people with. I assume you can skate?
