Setting Swimming Goals

I've decided to sign up for a Swimathon to raise money for a cancer charity, but I'm not sure about the correct distance target to set for myself. The Swimathon is in 3 months and the options are: 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km. Now, I usually swim a few times a week and normally manage about 0.6km. I swim for fun so although I do want to improve I haven't really been pushing myself too much. I thought about doing the 2.5km but I'm not sure if it would be too much of a challenge for me at the moment? I feel the 1.5km would definitely be manageable with a training schedule but I want to push myself so I don't know whether to go for the 2.5km. I want to do well and raise money, but is it really unrealistic to be able to swim an extra 2km in 2 months? I'm in my twenties, no health problems and I'm aiming to train 3-4 times a week. Any thoughts/advice would be great.

It is entirely reasonable to train to swim 2.5 km in two months if you already go .6 km at a time and you are not struggling.

In fact, I would go a 1.5 km for next swim and see how it feels.

Thanks for the advice, I tried for a 1.5km and made it to nearly 1km so I'm pretty sure with training I will be able to make it.
