| | | bike riding to work Does anyone do this? i started nearly 2 weeks ago. First day was brutal but surprisingly it only took me 30mins to get to work. It normally takes me about the same, poss 40mins via public transport but I hate the corwded trams and trains.
I must say as a driver i hate cyclists, now that i'm one, i hate cars! They never leave enough space, particularly as one stretch of road i ride on has no marked bike lane. its horrible when you get near the lights because they are so close to the kerb i can't weave through.
my other pet peeves are driving over the bike lane, stopping over the bike lane, etc.
but overall despite inhaling bus and garbage truck fumes i'm enying it.
i've been slack with my gym going for the past 9 months so this way i am getting 1 hour exercise every day and wheni go to the gym i don't have to do cardio, i can just stretch and do weights instead./ |

| | | I would in the city, but in the town I live, I have to admit I'd probably be embarrassed. Though it would inspire me to get to school early, and leave late, so that no students could see me. I'd get more work done.

| | | In the netherlands they ride their bikes everywhere and there wasnt that many overweight people there. They ride bikes so easily and without effort. I need to get one and get into shape better!

| | | i cycle to work and use the pavement if it's clear because drivers are such twats that i'll inevitably get killed/injured if i spend time on the roads. quite a few pavements have been converted to cycle tracks and pavements combined where i live. they've finally seen sense that cars and bikes don't mix
bort i thought nz was all outdoors and sporty? every school i know of in the uk has a handful of teachers who cycle to work. there's no embarrasment factor

I enjoyed it. People looked at me like I had lost my mind. In fact, one time a friend and I had planned to meet after work and go out. She showed up first and saw me biking up the street. She didn't even recognize me. She told me she was thinking, "What the fuck is that chick smiling at?" So funny.
When I rode up to the house she was shaking her head and smiling.

| | | i do, its pretty liberating apart from the total lack of respect we get from any other road users. i'd say that holland/amsterdam has it sorted with their cyclists getting the road priorities, but that didnt make it very good for pedestrians in my experience (especially the ones wandering around aimlessley on magic mushrooms, ahem.) as far as getting fit it doesnt work for me. i thought all my cold mornings on a bike would return me to my fitness of youth, but when i played a football match a few weeks ago i was cained after about 30 minutes. i figure that cycle health only brings up a general level of fitness, doing anything fitness intensive will show yr true colours of lazyness. |

| | | i've been wanting to get a cruiser bike for years. i've also wanted to live in a town small enough so we could go everywhere on foot or bike for years. so we found the town and made the move and i'm still driving. so nat, i was so compelled by this thread to google map my daily travels and i'm embarrassed to say that i work 0.4 miles (directly east) from home and chloe and olive's school is 0.6 miles (directly west) the other direction. how fucking ridiculous. i'm buying myself a bike for christmas. |

well my judgment today is seriously lacking? what on earth posessed me to go riding to work in rain? i got soaked coming back home as well and just when i'm near home i get a goddam puncture! ARGH bike riding is already tallying up to match how much i spent on a monthly tram/train/bus ticket! |

| | | on dragons den they had these amazing velcro on trouser-protector keeper-dryer type things. i thought they were a cyclists wet dream. nedless to say they insulted the inventor and his product out of the den, but im sure many cyclists would pay for such a device. waterproof trousers get caught in the chain :/ |

| | | for the city cyclist however this product was a must, means no more freezing cold football shorts in the morning, and flashing yr nutsack to the driver in fronts, rear view mirrors. you wear gators on a bike? do they even have any grip? haha italys greatest ever export.. |

| | | why do ankle gaiters need a grip? they hold the waterproofs away from the chain and stop all the up-splash getting under your trousers. plus they're brightly coloured and embarrasing and so good for your soul

People like commitment.
