has anyone made it?
is there an art to getting it perfect??
i dont even know where to get the sushi rice of seaweed? (im in the uk)
im very excited, im going to try to make it for mah man this friday!!

my friend makes her own sushi. I wanna try to make it eventually. there's this cute asianfood store and it has the tiny rice and the bamboo rollings thingies and everything else, so I might just as well go get everything from there.

ohh, i think i should go and look for a shop like that
but im quite sure there isnt one.... there are a few chinese supermarkets but its japanese

I tried to make my own sushi once. It tasted good but it looked munted. I just buy it readymade now.
You can get the stuff from the supermarket, in the "international foods" section, that's where I got mine. They'll surely have it.

you get the more authentic ingredients in the chinese store (they usually have a japanese section) but most standard supermarkets like tesco stock sushi stuff these days.

I've never made it completely....I mean I've made the rice and stuff but I never found the nori to wrap it in or the really fresh fish.

Fresh fish is expensive.

it takes forever, it's fiddly, the rice is frickin sticky and unless you're a trained sushi chef it makes a mess everywhere.
we had our friends over and made sushi and just as quickly as i made them they would get eaten.

i havn't tried its far easier to buy it ready made from boots.

i've always kinda wondered if fish from the fishmonger near my house would be fresh enough to slice thin & eat raw.
i always just kinda figured there was this ancient oriental secret what makes the fish at sushi places not give you food poisoning.

my ex-housemate used to make it all the time, he was fantastic at it. he used to make the rolls really tight and used a sharp sharp knife to cut them up so they looked amazing. he is a total perfectionist though, he used to labour over it for hours. i had some photos on my old phone of some sushi he made one night and you would never have been able to tell it was homemade.
