| | | how do you know you have low blood sugar? have you had your blood sugar checked?
edit - if you have had your blood sugar levels checked then when you get the symptoms you should eat something sugary. and try and prevent hypos by eatting regular meals with complex carbs like pasta and rice.
if you haven't had your levels checked and are concerened about symptoms you are getting,go to the doctor.

| | | By the way, can you develop diabetes when you have low blood sugar? Cos my grandma has diabetes, and I'm worried that I might get it, too! |

| | | You get diabetes from lack of insulin, which is a bit different to actual blood sugar, I've been told. I have really REALLY low blood sugar and I have to have these sugar balance shit pills that do work, but taste vile.
I also had to cut out processed sugar completely. Maybe you should do that? It helped me a lot. |

| | | diabetes is caused by a lack of insulin, or decreased sensitivity to insulin. if you are a diabetic and untreated you will get high blood sugars. the reason they get hypos is because they have taken too much insulin for the amount of food they have eatten.
i don't think you are at risk from developing diabetes from having low blood sugar.
but these are questions you really need to be asking your dr.

| | I wouldn't recommend eating something "sugary", that will only cause severe blood sugar fluctuations, eat plenty of complex carbs instead, like wholemeal bread and grains. |

| | | This isn't medical advice, but I've had low blood sugar my whole life. If I'm about to crash, I have a couple of Lifesavers (I always carry them with me) or glucose rich jellybeans. This will bring your sugar levels up temporarily but you MUST follow this up with some complex carbs i.e. a sandwich as soon as possible or you'll just end up worse (or in my case, on the floor).
I'm sure ultimately cutting out sugars and all the other "bad stuff" is the solution. But I've read such conflicting advice about diets that I prefer just to listen to my own body these days. |

| | | My blood sugar is okay according to my doctor (for some reason the last time she saw me she really wanted to check it) but I think it's slightly lower than optimal just based on how I react to too much sugar, not enough food, etc. Always eat breakfast, and eat regularly through the day. Get some protein at every meal. Never eat sugar by itself -- I know it sounds like weird food combining BS but eating a sugary food without having a meal with some protein first always makes me go to sleep. If you want dessert have it with a healthy meal instead of as a snack or by itself so that it doesn't cause the big spike and drop in blood sugar. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
