which ingredients are you crazy about lately?

i go through phases of eating a LOT of one thing. sometimes because good things are in season (in strawberry season it's pretty much all i eat), sometimes just because i try something new or something i haven't had for a while and then can't stop eating it.

so. tell me about your favorite things right now.

king oyster mushrooms - organically and locally grown, which of course means SUPER EXPENSIVE. i nearly wet my pants when they told me the price. so worth it, though. i cut them into strips, sauteed them with a little salt and pepper and rolled them into a plain (just eggs, water and salt) omelet. BEST MEAL EVER. those mushrooms are so fucking tasty.

dandelion greens - i was broke. really broke. no money. and i had always wanted to try dandelion greens, as the idea of finding free food in the wild is awesome. so i went into my backyard and gathered a few handfuls. sauteed them in olive oil with a bit of herb salt, not really expecting them to even turn out edible. they were actually REALLY GOOD. better than spinach. better than any greens i've had before. i would pay for this. except i don't have to. yessssss...

cabbage - raw. healthy, tasty, cheap and local. crispy goodness. yum.

baby portabella mushrooms, I love sautéing them in balsamic vinegar until tender and rich then throwing them on a salad. I like putting them into sauces.

fresh basil. I used it for homemade bruschetta, it tastes great chopped up along side some tomatoes and then cooked into scrambled eggs. And I used some to make some croutons last night.

haha, wow, i'd never thought of this. do you mean the leaves you find on dandelion plants? i'm intrigued.

as for me,

i've been eating a lot of courgettes lately, a bit dull, i know. grilled and added to salads is nice. and incorporated into curry

ive also been eating beetroot which is odd for me as i always vowed that i hated it. shredded and added to salads is good
